Burman (pictured) had been talking to the 34-year-old defender for several weeks before he signed on Saturday morning ahead of the 1-0 home win over Leyton Orient at Princes Park.

South African-born Arber has made more than 570 appearances and scored 49 goals in a professional career spanning six clubs.

He was released by Dagenham & Redbridge at the end of last season and Burman said: "Mark and I have been speaking for about a month and everything came to fruition on Friday morning.

"He is a an excellent signing for us and I am delighted to bring somebody with his experience and calibre to the club."

As the countdown continues to the Darts’ Blue Square Bet Premier opener at home to Tamworth on Saturday week, forward Nathan Collier became Burman’s second capture after impressing during pre-season.

Burman added: "We have known about Nathan for a while and he has done well in pre-season. He can play in a number of positions, his attitude has been fantastic and has earned his chance."
