Delays after Dartford tunnel was closed

Congestion built up on the M25 at Dartford after one of the tunnels had to be closed.

It was so highways authorities could deal with a broken down car.

Highways England reported the left hand tunnel, also called the west bore, was shut, with queuing traffic on the M25 anticlockwise between J1A A282 / A206 / B3228 (Swanscombe) and J31 A1306 (West Thurrock), in Essex.

Traffic had built up to J2 of the M25 which connects to the A2 at Darenth.

The first traffic alerts were issued around 12.30pm. It is understood by 1pm the car had been recovered and the tunnel had re-opened.
