Driver in Christmas Day tragedy on A2

AN ELDERLY man died of a suspected heart attack while driving with his wife on Christmas Day.

The 80-year-old was at the wheel of his car on the A2 coast-bound at Dartford when it slewed across the road and hit a barrier.

His wife, who was in the passenger seat, was unharmed in the tragic incident that happened at about 1.30pm.

The couple’s details have not yet been released by police. The driver was taken to Dartford's Darent Valley Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed the driver had probably suffered a heart attack at the wheel and no other vehicles were involved.
