Rain water which heavily flooded overnight was cleared away by council workmen who pumped it out this morning.

The downpour in Milton Street, Swanscombe, had left many cars stranded in knee-deep water - due to a drainage problem residents say has been going on for years.

One of them, Natalie Sullivan, said: "I've lived here for 10 years and experienced this at least eight. At times we've had to position our dustbins in the street to stop traffic coming in and getting stranded.

"We're on the fringe of the Dartford Crossing and if we received some of the money from the profits its making, it would have solved the problem."
