Police at an incident in Littlebrook Manor Way, Dartford

Police closed a road for four hours during a stand-off with a man who had barricaded himself in a shed.

The 29-year-old, who was holed-up in the garden of a property in Littlebrook Manor Way, had threatened to harm himself, police say.

Officers closed the road between its junctions with Henderson Drive and Tennyson Road when they arrived at about 5.30am today.

The man, who had been sought last night on suspicion of assault, was finally removed from the brick-built shed at about 9.30am. Police arrested him following an assessment by paramedics, which found him unharmed.

Critical incident commander, Chief Inspector Martin Cunningham, said: "At no stage was there any risk to the public. Our main concern was for the individual and his welfare."

During the incident Fastrack buses were diverted along Henderson Drive. The road was re-opened at about 9:45am.
