The M25 has been cleared both ways after police were called amid concerns for the welfare of a man on a bridge.

But heavy delays are still continuing as the backlog clears.

It was briefly shut between J1a for Swanscombe and J1b for Dartford, with congestion stretching back for QEII bridge one way and the Darenth Interchange the other way.

All traffic was stopped on the Kent side of the Dartford Crossing just before 8am, but it was cleared by 8.45am.

But traffic is said to be queueing traffic for eight miles on the Essex side, with delays back to J29 for the A127. Travel time is about 60 minutes.

On the Kent side, the queues stretch back five miles to J3 for the M20/A20.

A police spokesman said they were called to concerns for the welfare of a man on a bridge, but the issue was now resolved.
