Cancer patients have a comfier place to sit during treatment thanks to those who took part in a golfing marathon.

The South London Charity Golf Classic is held at Dartford Golf Club by members every July to raise money for charities.

Last year’s raised £6,750, which was split between the House of Mercy, in Gravesend, HCPT Pilgrimage Trust in Dartford, and the Darent Valley Hospital Cancer Unit.

The cash is usually handed over on the day, but the cancer unit asked for three specialist chairs, and they have now been built and delivered.

It was the 31st year of golfing fundraisers, and the total raised has now topped £150,000.

Organiser Mike Fitzpatrick said: “The golf matches are a good way to have a nice day and raise some money to give something back.”

This year’s classic will be held on Friday, July 3, with some of the money going to the hospice charity ellenor. Teams of four are welcome and it includes 27 holes of golf, lunch and dinner. For more information and prices, call Mr Fitzpatrick on 01322 277441.
