A horse has died after being hit by a lorry on the M25.

Police were called after the animal was seen running loose on the motorway near junction 3 for Swanley.

It was struck by a HGV before it could be taken to safety, and suffered a broken leg.

Screens were put up around the horse as highways officers tried to keep it calm.

A vet arrived on scene and decided the animal's injuries were too severe, so it was humanely put down.

The road has reopened and traffic has cleared.
