Kyel Reid's volley rescued a point for Charlton at fellow promotion chasers Huddersfield.

The midfielder responded on 58 minutes to in-form Jordan Rhodes's header just five minutes earlier. The draw means Phil Pakinson's side drop a place to fifth behind Swindon Town, but close the gap on second-placed Leeds United to just three points after they lost to leaders Norwich City.

Charlton could have escaped from the Galpharm Stadium with all three points, but their appeals for an injury-time penalty were waved away by the referee.

Rhodes, who picked up his 15th goal of the season, stole into the area past the Charlton defence to head past Darren Randolph.

But, moments later, Reid pounced on a loose clearence from Gary Borrowdale's long throw-in to lash the ball past Terriers keeper Alex Smithies.

Striker Nicky Forster was handed a debut following his arrival on loan from Brighton, while skipper Nicky Bailey missed his first league game of the season with an ankle injury.

Darren Randolph replaced injured Rob Elliot in goal while Scott Wagstaff and Kyel Reid were recalled in midfield.

Charlton: Randolph; Richardson, Dailly, S Sodje, Borrowdale (Solly 82mins); Wagstaff, Semedo, Racon, Reid; Mooney, Forster (A Sodje 89mins). Subs not used: Warner, Sam, Llera, Shelvey, Spring.
