Ten-man Charlton suffered their third defeat in five matches with a 1-0 reverse at Huddersfield in League 1 on Saturday.

Jordan Rhodes scored the only goal of the game - his 35th of the season to set a post-war club scoring record for Huddersfield – with a 14th-minute penalty to inflict a third defeat in five matches on Charlton.

The spot-kick was awarded when Gary Roberts raced into the box only for Darel Russell to bring him down. Rhodes successfully converted the kick low into the bottom corner of the net.

Michael Morrison and Bradley Wright-Phillips had chances for the Addicks, but their hopes were hit when they were reduced to 10 men.

Antony Kay fouled Russell, who stamped back at him and was shown a straight red card – his second of the season - by referee Carl Boyeson.

Charlton almost grabbed a point in the last minute but Leon Cort headed a chance over the bar.

The Addicks stay top of the table – eight points ahead of second-place Sheffield Wednesday - but have only taken four points from their last five games.
