A suspected car thief remains in custody after a vehicle was crashed during a police chase.

A 20-year-old was arrested after allegedly making off from police in Hextable before colliding with a telegraph pole at around 10.25pm on Saturday.

Patrols began the pursuit after spotting the silver Skoda being driven in Rowhill Road without a registration plate.

Police spotted the car just after 10pm. Stock picture.

The driver abandoned the car after a collision near Puddledock Lane.

Following a search of the area a man, of no fixed address, was arrested. He was later taken to hospital for an unrelated matter and remains in police custody.

Checks later showed the vehicle had been reported stolen after a burglary in Hartley, Longfield, last Tuesday.
