A man suffered hand burns after trying to move a burning chip pan from inside his home.

Dartford fire crews attended an address in Alamein Gardens, Dartford, yesterday just before 6pm.

A man in his 20s discovered the burning pan and attempted to move it outside his home

He received the injuries when oil spilled from the pan burning his hands and damaging his carpet.

Watch Manager Vicki Brown who attended the incident said: "Despite all our efforts to get the message across about the dangers of cooking with hot oil, we are still being called to a number of fires in the home involving the old style chip pans, with the kitchen being the main area where most house fires start. "

"If you are unlucky enough to have a chip pan fire, never put water onto hot oil, it heats up, expands, turns to steam and rises in a big steam cloud.

"Each particle of steam is coated in burning oil and if you are near it you will be badly burned."
