A suspected burglar stabbed to death during a botched raid has been named.

Henry Vincent, who was wanted for distraction burglary in Farningham, was killed during a struggle at the home of Richard Osborn-Brooks in Hither Green, south east London.

The 37-year-old, who has lived in Swanley, Hextable and Orpington, was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Police were called to the scene at 12.45am yesterday amid reports of a burglary in progress and a man injured at the address.

The 78-year-old homeowner had found two men inside the address and a struggle ensued between him and the men.

It is believed one of the suspects had a screwdriver and threatened the homeowner.

Henry, who was found collapsed in Further Green Road, suffered a stab wound to the upper body.

He was taken by the London Ambulance Service to a central London hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3.37am.

A post-mortem examination has given a provisional cause of death as a stab wound.

In January Kent Police appealed for information as to Mr Vincent and Billy Jeeves' whereabouts following a separate distraction burglary at the home of a man in his 70s in High Street, Farningham.

Mr Osborn-Brooks was quizzed yesterday on suspicion of murder but has now been released under investigation.

A second man involved in the raid, who fled the scene before police arrived, remains on the run.

Detective chief inspector Simon Harding, of the Met Police homicide and major crime command, who is leading the investigation, said: "I would like to speak with anyone who has information regarding the outstanding suspect from the burglary, who is believed to be a white male; he may have told someone what happened at the address.

"It is possible that he fled the scene in a vehicle, possibly a white van, leaving the scene in the direction of Further Green Road. Did you see this vehicle? Do you know where it went after this? I ask anyone who can help to call our incident room as soon as possible."
