A man was rescued by a lifeboat crew after the anchor chain of his boat snapped late last night.

The man got into difficulty in water near Dartford with plans to travel to Southend in Essex, over the next few days.

He decided to anchor in Crayford Nest on the Thames near the entrance of Dartford Creek.

It was here that his anchor chain snapped and fearing he would float adrift - he called the lifeboat crew at Gravesend for assistance.

The lifeboat was launched at 11.30 and towed him to a mooring in Greenhithe. It is believed no one was hurt during the incident.
