Hetty Feather opened with live music that caught everyone's attention and prepared us for the show.

The show, at Dartford's Orchard Theatre, was set in the Victorian era, a baby girl was given up by her mother and sent to a foster mother via an orphanage.

When she turned six, she had to be returned to the orphanage to take up a life as a servant, as this was how all girls were brought up. They were given a basic level of education including learning the alphabet. Boys were trained as soldiers, rather than servants.

Throughout the performance, the audience felt involved with the often endearing and emotive storyline.

The music created an atmosphere and clever use of the suspended ropes on stage, gave extra dimension, as the cast used them as various props including climbing trees.

There was a big twist towards the end which left you with a warm feeling.

The show is on until Easter Sunday. Read our interview with author Jacqueline Wilson here.
