Charlton’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end at the City Ground on Saturday.

A Lee Camp own goal, two minutes from time, was no more than a consolation as the Addicks succumbed to a strong Nottingham Forest side.

The hosts started positively and Adlene Guedioura almost put them in front when his shot struck the crossbar.

However, Charlton were 1-0 down on 17 minutes. Lewis McGugan whipped in a free-kick from wide on the left and the ball sailed through a crowded six-yard box and into the net.

Dexter Blackstock went close to adding a second goal and Simon Cox then forced a good save from Charlton keeper Ben Hamer.

After the break, Charlton showed signs of life and Camp, in the Forest goal, pulled off a double save to deny Jordan Cook.

On 75 minutes, though, on-loan Chelsea defender Sam Hutchinson collected Blackstock’s pass and raced into the box before rolling the ball between Hamer’s legs.

Charlton halved the deficit in bizarre fashion when Ricardo Fuller’s header hit the post and bounced off Camp’s legs as he tried to gather the bouncing ball.
