Pardew under no illusions

NEW Charlton boss Alan Pardew pulled no punches as he sets about avoiding relegation from the Premiership.

The 45-year-old, who was sacked by West Ham earlier this month, knows he has taken on an enormous task at The Valley.

Pardew said: "I think you have to accept that the odds are stacked against us but if I didn't think we could make it I wouldn't be here.

"I will be doing everything in my power to inspire what we've got here, and then in the window, maybe look to bring in one or two.

"I don't think there is a great deal of money about but I've always been able to operate well without big money."

Pardew, who made more than 100 appearances for the Addicks in the 1990s, takes over with Charlton now eight points away from Premiership safety.

He has penned a three and a half year deal at The Valley.
