Police have been called to a bridge over the M25 to help a man who was in distress.

The force received the call around 4.45pm today and rushed to the Dartford Crossing.

It came as motorists reported feeling worried after seeing a man on the bridge on the approach to the crossing. Police said there were concerns for his well-being and held traffic while they helped him.

A police spokesman added: "Officers attended the scene and a man was detained under the mental health act and taken to a local hospital."

Traffic has built up while the incident has been dealt with and the M25 was reported to be busy earlier in the day after the M20 closure came into force and a serious crash happened on the A21.
