AN 11-year-old schoolboy is in a critical condition in hospital today after a road accident.

The boy, who has not been named, was taken to Dartford's Darent Valley Hospital with serious head injuries and internal bleeding after colliding with a car in Vincent Road, Temple Hill at about 4.30pm yesterday.

He was later transferred to Kings College Hospital in London. A friend with the boy was also taken to hospital and treated for shock.

The road was closed for more than two hours while police officers investigated the scene, causing massive tailbacks across Temple Hill.

Sgt Peter Cornwell said: "It may be the youngster was walking home from school. We would urge adults to be aware and encourage their children to wear reflective clothing and badges during the dark evenings."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dartford Incident Report Room on 01322 280055.
