They formed in Birmingham in 1978 as part of the West Midlands ska revival scene that also produced The Specials and The Selecter.

The Beat, a blend of ska, pop, reggae and punk rock, released a string of hit singles including “Mirror in the Bathroom”, “Too Nice To Talk To” and “All Out To Get You”, getting them a loyal following both in the UK and abroad.

Saturday’s headline act will be 17 year-old Luke Friend, who appeared on the 2013 series of The X Factor.

He made it to the finals, eventually finishing third with his version of “Anything Can Happen” with Ellie Goulding.
