A man has been cut free from a car after a crash involving two vehicles on the A2 close to the junction for the M25.

Three of four lanes were closed between the Darenth Interchange, which takes drivers towards the M25, and the junction with the B255 for Bean.

A man in 40s was taken to King's College Hospital in London with chest and back injuries, an ambulance service spokesman confirmed.

All lanes had reopened by 10.30am and delays had cleared by midday.

Police, fire, ambulance and highways crews were called to the scene.

Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to cut the roof from one of the vehicles involved to enable them to free a trapped man.

He was placed on a spinal longboard and handed into the care of the ambulance service.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 8.22am to a collision between two vehicles on the coastbound carriageway of the A2 between the M25 and the junction with Bean.

"Officers are in attendance and lane closures are currently in place.

"South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue have also been called.

"Ambulance crews are assessing for any injuries at the scene. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes if possible."
