Many people wonder what they would say to a police if they were caught hurtling up the motorway to hospital with their pregnant partner in labour in the car.

Yet officers were not impressed when a motorist who had just ended a driving ban told them the reason he was caught travelling at 106mph on the A2 was because his pregnant wife needed a wee.

The spectacular excuse was given when the Kent Police Roads Policing Unit pulled over a driver on the A2 near Bexley.

The motorist was halted shortly before 11.40pm last night.

A police spokesman said the excuse "is an age-old classic".

Kent Police RPU tweeted: "However, we have heard that one many times and doing 106mph is always going to get you pulled over and dealt with.

"The driver has only just come off a driving ban after accumulating 12 points."
