Drivers travelling between Kent and Essex faced delays as the QE2 Bridge closed because of strong winds.
Highways England decided to shut the crossing just after 5am as crosswinds reached 60 miles-per-hour. It was reopened at around 7.30am.
Vehicles were being diverted through one of the Dartford tunnels instead.
Two lanes were closed on the M25 anticlockwise from J1A for Swanscombe heading towards the Dartford tunnel to accommodate the diverted traffic which was using the right hand tunnel.
The left hand tunnel remained open for traffic heading away from Kent.
A yellow weather warning for strong winds remains in place after being issued by the Met Office yesterday.
Overnight gusts have also led to some problems on the trains.
Southbound trains were able to run but with some minor delays. The tree had been removed just before 7am.
