Tony Burman wants Dartford to stick together

Dartford manager Tony Burman

Tony Burman is calling on everyone to stick together as the race for the Ryman League Premier Division title moves into the home straight.

The Dartford boss understands the supporters’ anxiety after two defeats in three days against Tooting last Saturday and Boreham Wood on Tuesday night, but is urging them not to get on their own players’ backs.

He said: "We all want the best for the club, like everybody does, and I know it is a little bit frustrating, but I would rather they take it out on opposing teams."

Dartford travel to Horsham on Thursday and then host Maidstone for the second time in a fortnight, after winning 1-0 earlier this month.

"The title is still ours to lose, and we are getting close but not close enough," said Burman. "We are a big scalp for other teams because of what we have done this season and where we are in the table, and I accept that.

"It’s tough as well because we are playing teams who are raising their games and trying to upset us. I just hope they are putting in the same amount of effort and work-rate against other teams.

"I don’t enjoy losing, but the pressure has been on us since day one of the season. One or two players might be getting a little bit anxious, but we have got to stay focused. We cannot start looking over our shoulders, and must concentrate on what we do."
