Delays have eased after two crashes on the A2 London-bound carriageway brought traffic to a standstill.

The accidents were between the M2 J1 and the Darenth Interchange junction for the M25 at J2.

Delays stretched between these two junctions, with emergency services and the Highways Agency on the scene.

Lanes two and three were shut after to multi-vehicle crash and another accident involving a motorbike and car - believed to be within a few hundred yards of each other.

Drivers were being told to expect delays of up to 50 minutes and to add extra time for their journeys.

Meanwhile, there were delays at J1B of the M25 - not helped by the earlier crashes - which closed lanes one and three following a multi-vehicle crash.
