Motorists heading towards the Dartford Crossing faced delays today due to emergency repairs.

The right-hand tunnel was shut for several after works began early this afternoon.

It was reopened shortly after 8.30pm. The smaller left-hand tunnel remained fully open.

One lane of the tunnel was closed for most of the afternoon but the entire tunnel was then shut at about 4pm.

The closure, from junction 1A for Swanscombe to junction 31 for Lakeside, affected traffic on the M25 heading anticlockwise.

Highways England tweeted: "#A282 northbound at the #DartfordCrossing.

"The east tunnel is closed for emergency carriageway inspections, please take care, delays on the approach #DartCharge #M25

"Please use the west tunnel, although height restrictions are in place 15ft 9 or 4.8m."
