Services on a miniature railway track have been disrupted after it was damaged by vandals in what has been described as a "mindless act".

Full services have been temporarily suspended at the Swanley New Barn Railway, set in Swanley park, after it was targeted on Tuesday at around 7pm.

A statement on their website reads: "Due to an act of vandalism, we will be unable to run a full service until the weekend.

"25 metres of the brand new track that our volunteers spent many hours this winter laying has been damaged this evening and needs many hours of work to make it useable again.

"We will, of course, do our best to run as many trains as possible but ask for your patience as our capacity is now severely limited by this mindless act."

The railway was opened in July 1986 and runs between Swanley parkway and New Barn. Trains include a collection of both steam and diesel engines.

The line was built to provide a quick form of transport to move people and luggage across the park.
