A TRIBUTE to tragic road crash victim schoolgirl Naomi Stranders is to be unveiled in the grounds of her school on what would have been her 16th birthday.

The flame-haired youngster died in hospital on April 20 last year after being struck by a car in Lowfield Street, Dartford, as she walked to Fairfield Pool and Leisure Centre.

On Monday, staff and pupils at Dartford Technology College in Heath Lane are to install a sundial and plant spring flowers in her memory.

Naomi's mother Sharon, 43, said the sundial and flowers were a symbol of her daughter's love for the summer season. She recalled: "Naomi liked laying out in the sun but she would always come in red while her friends would end up brown."

A specially inscribed plaque bearing the name Tigger - the nickname affectionately given to Naomi because of her bright-coloured hair - will also be unveiled.

"Naomi loved school," said Mrs Stranders. "She was well liked and excelled in English."

Big-hearted friends and relatives paid for the tribute through a special collection which also raised cash for the intensive care unit at Darent Valley Hospital where doctors battled to save Naomi's life.

Mrs Stranders added: "Support from family and friends has made a real difference and having God in my life as well has been a real help."
