Stunned shoppers watched as a yob jumped up and down on the roof of a police car parked outside a Kent supermarket.

The incident was caught on film by an onlooker yesterday morning in the car park of Sainsbury's in Dartford.

Stunned shoppers watched the yob jump up and down on the roof of the police car.

The vandal is heard to ask others for a "a stick or a bar or something" and then climbs onto the roof of car and repeatedly jumps up and down, ignoring a friend's pleas to stop.

He then breaks the rear windscreen of the car, swinging what appears to be a shovel at the vehicle and setting off an alarm, before removing items from the back of the car.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at just after 9.35am to a report of damage to a police vehicle in a supermarket car park in Priory Market Place, Dartford.

"The police car was empty at the time. A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage."
