Dartford manager Tony Burman happy to consider academy players for place in squad for FA Cup tie at Slough

Dartford boss Tony Burman plans to give the club’s young hopefuls a look-in this weekend.

With extra spaces on the bench for their trip to Slough in the FA Cup third round qualifier, it’s an ideal opportunity for Burman to involve some youngsters.

His decision to loan out Ben Francis and Richard Seixas last week means he can start giving some of the promising academy players a chance to get involved.

Burman said: “We work with the youngsters from the academy and they need to have that experience in and around the first-team squad.

“With seven substitutes in the FA Cup it means I could bring a couple of players in. With Ben and Richard having a chance to get games in elsewhere, a couple of second-year guys here could be called upon.

“Some of them have done well and deserve the recognition and we are confident enough in them to get them involved. We’ve got some good prospects coming through.”

Burman named an unchanged XI last Saturday against Concord but may be without left-back Tom Wynter for the trip to Slough, although a knee injury he sustained at the weekend isn’t as bad as first feared.

Burman said: “We had him looked at on Monday and there was good movement in the knee and there is a slim chance he could be involved Saturday, although we know we have to be careful and we may wait for the following week."

Ronnie Vint is one option to replace him but Burman wants him to get more minutes after returning from a broken wrist, with plans to give him an extended run-out in the Kent Senior Cup against Cray Wanderers next Wednesday. Keaton Wood is another option.
