Dartford manager Tony Burman calls for improved display against National League South leaders Maidenhead after Hampton & Richmond thrashing

Dartford boss Tony Burman has demanded a reaction from his players after they let their standards slip on Bank Holiday Monday.

Burman watched his side crash to a 4-1 defeat at newly-promoted Hampton & Richmond two days after they’d won 2-0 at home to Hungerford.

National South leaders Maidenhead visit Princes Park on Saturday and Burman knows the Darts can’t afford a repeat performance.

He said: "The players have got to get back into the things that we ask them to do. They can get into bad habits.

"When they perform in the way they did on Monday, they know it’s below-par and they’ll want to put it right so I hope I get a reaction.

"As much as I thought we played well on Saturday, our standards dropped well below what we should be doing.

"It was a disappointing Bank Holiday Monday but we got a good result on Saturday and we have to move on.

"It’s how we now react. We’ve got to get back on track and there’s no better time to have a go than against the league leaders."

Another home game follows on Tuesday against a Welling side yet to record a win in seven attempts under new manager Mark Goldberg.

Burman said: "We’ve got to lift ourselves up, dust ourselves off and go again. It’s two home games and we’ve got to get something out of those games. I hope I get a good reaction."

Dartford finished August sitting 14th with nine points from their first seven games.

Burman said: "We’ve had a lot of problems off the field with injuries.

"Overall, to go on a target of two points per game, we’re five points behind that target.

"It’s nine points, it’s OK, it’s still not good enough but I feel that in six of the games we’ve played, we deserved to get more points than we have done.

"There’s a lot of credit to come out of that although there’s a lot of disappointment in Monday’s result."
