New Charlton manager Karl Robinson has insisted that taking over at The Valley is the right move.

Robinson was appointed last week, replacing the sacked Russell Slade and becoming Charlton's eighth manager in just two and a half years.

Despite that seemingly rotating door, the 36-year-old former MK Dons manager believes he is the right man to bring success to the Addicks.

"My next step was probably one of the most important ones in my life," Robinson told Charlton's official youtube channel.

"I think this is right. I really do. It's a good time and it's an opportunity where we can push forward.

"It was massively sold to me. People who know me, know I make my decisions and stand by them.

"There were so many things that fitted perfectly and I'm excited by the challenge, it's certainly going to be a challenge."

Robinson praised the work that former boss Slade did in his six months in charge at The Valley, as well as that of caretaker boss Kevin Nugent.

"I think Russell has left a very good squad," said Robinson.

"It's the start of a journey and whatever the circumstances, I've been lucky enough to take a club going in the right direction and that's massive to me.

"What Nugent did over the last seven days was incredible. It's tremendous testament to him and the players, the work ethic that they put into this club."

Charlton host Robinson's former club MK Dons in the second round of the FA Cup this Saturday in his first game in charge.

It may not happen overnight but he wants to bring the same attacking policy that he was noted for at MK Dons to The Valley, having won promotion out of League 1 just 18 months ago.

"In League 1 twice we scored over 100 goals and that shows you how expansive I want to be," he said.

"Playing two strikers here seems to suit, we've scored a lot of goals recently and that's something I want to continue.

"We've spoken internally to the players about what we want to do. They know my objectives, my targets. Some might see them as being high but I see high targets as being achievable ones as well.

"I can't do this on my own. It's a collective effort. If we get promoted or we win a game it's because we've done it. I want to work my hardest for the (fans) to be happy."
