Returning Dartford striker Charlie Sheringham is glad he took up the invitation to play in Bangladesh.

Sheringham spent half a season with Saif Sporting Club, who are based in the capital Dhaka.

The move took him out of his comfort zone but gave Sheringham an experience he’d been craving.

He said: “Once I left Ebbsfleet (in June 2017), I was looking into it.

“I probably thought of moving to Australia or America but that one came up and it was a good opportunity, so why not?

“Bangladesh is a crazy place but they’re getting very big on their football.

“Dhaka is hard to describe unless you’ve been there. It’s busy, hectic, lots of people, warm and humid.

“I wouldn’t advise going on holiday there but for the time I was there I made the most of it and enjoyed it.

“It was a complete change, a different culture and language but it’s one of those things you can say you’ve done.

“I played in America when I was younger and now I’ve played football in Bangladesh. I suppose there’s not many people who can say that.

“Every experience, you’ve got to learn from and use whether it be playing in Bangladesh, America, Ebbsfleet, Bournemouth or Dartford.”

Sheringham started the season at Hemel Hempstead but when things changed there, Dartford came calling.

He said: “I’ve just turned 30 and want to enjoy my football and score more goals.

“I’d like to move into coaching and managing at some stage
so it’s about progressing into that.

“Not just yet because I’ve got a few more years in me but that’s where my focus is.”
