Goalkeeper Alan Julian insists money was not the motivation for his move from Dartford to their Conference South rivals Sutton this week.

Julian was the Darts’ star performer last season, picking up four player-of-the-year awards for his efforts between the posts.

But he turned down a new contract at Princes Park and will play against Dartford for the U's next season after accepting what Darts boss Tony Burman described as "an offer he couldn’t refuse."

Sutton had one of the biggest budgets in Skrill South in 2013/14 but Middlesex-based Julian was quick to set the record straight about his latest move.

He said: "I’ve heard rumours, people saying that I’ve gone for the money, and it’s absolutely not the case.

"I’ll be earning less than I was at Dartford. It’s closer to home and I’ll be training every day.

"For me, travelling to Dartford was a long way and I’ve been travelling around the country for the best part of 10 years so it’s nice to finally be at a club that’s closer to home."
