Dartford get second chance in National League South title race, according to manager Tony Burman

Dartford boss Tony Burman insisted his side won’t take anything for granted after another dramatic twist in the title race.

Darts could have trailed Havant by six points if results had gone against them in the week.

Instead, Burman’s men head to Eastbourne on Saturday back on top of National League South on goal difference.

Alfie Pavey’s 25th goal of the season gave Dartford a 1-0 victory at Gloucester on Tuesday – just hours after a waterlogged pitch forced Havant’s home game that night with East Thurrock to be postponed.

“It’s good for the observers and we’re looking forward to this week now but we won’t be taking anything for granted,” said Burman.

“That’s what we’ve said for the last few weeks. It’s one game at a time. We feel that we’ve been given a second chance – it’s up to us to grab it.”

Dartford visit East Thurrock on Tuesday night so will have the chance to increase the pressure further on Havant who are only due to play once in the next seven days – at home to play-off hopefuls St Albans on Saturday.

It isn’t the first time Dartford have had the chance to get away from their rivals and Burman is hoping they can cash in as the season reaches its climax.

He added: “The ball is in our court. I thought we’d dropped too many points – and that still hurts me – but all credit to the players for the way they’ve responded.

“Havant had an opportunity and they could have gone seven or eight points in front at one stage but they didn’t and that’s given us another chance.

“I hope that we’ve learnt the lessons from before and can grab it with both hands this time.”
