All the latest from Crayford Greyhound Track

Lucky Top has won the Dog-of-the-Month award after four wins in June.

The dog had his first race here in March and won his first career race on June 6, having had nine races in Ireland and nine here.

The switch from four bends to six seems to have worked wonders and he has won over the longer 540m distance in S5, S4 and S3.

His times show he has the scope to win at S2 level, although it may take a couple of attempts.

The Bitch-of-the-Month award went to Plenty To Say, a model of consistency since early May finishing in the first three in all but one of her last 12 races.

She is equally effective over 380 or 540m. Her three wins in June secured her the award and her latest win time of 34.63sec gives a strong indication she could win an S3 race next time.

Over time you identify certain dogs that win fairly regularly. One is Lightfoot Lisa, trained by Ian Stevens.

The dog has won eight of her last 22 starts, which is a good strike rate and has had a further six second-place finishes. In February, she was racing in grade A7 over 380m and has since risen up the system to A2 level.

I think this grade is one step too far on the evidence of her two runs in June, when finishing fifth and sixth.

However, should she find it difficult she will ultimately be dropped back to A3, which is well within her capabilities having recently won at 4-1.

The Annual Retired Greyhound show will be held on Sunday, July 21 with gates opening at 1.30pm.

Admission is £2 and there will be plenty of attractions, including the judging in age groups of the retired greyhounds who will receive winner’s rosettes.

There will be bouncy castles, tombolas, bric-a-brac, ask the vet, photography and a barbecue. Why not come along?

I will be there, as will Crayford Wigglers Gemma and Kayleigh who have gained fame as our race starters on our televised meetings on Saturdays.
