We do not have many races over 874m which is the maximum distance here. As such, it is always difficult to work out who is likely to win due to the limited form lines.

On Saturday evening we had such a race over the distance and we may have found a new long-distance star in Luani Beauty.

Beauty showed exceptional late stamina, crossing the winning line eight lengths clear of her rivals. The local bookmakers had obviously identified her chances, sending her off as 7/4 race favourite.

Trainer Barry O’Sullivan will have been pleased with the way in which the dog, who trapped out in last place, stuck to her task and gradually improved her position until taking control with 160m to go.

The greyhound was purchased here in the Irish greyhound auction some eight months ago and has only had 13 races to date.

She had raced twice previously over our 714m, two-circuit distance, finishing third on both occasions and showing late improvement so clearly we have a case here where the extra 160m suits her very well. Look out for her over 874m.

If you like the hurdlers, then the only dog for you is Handy Henry. Trained by Julie Luckhurst, the dog has won five of his last six starts over the sticks.

He started his racing career here in May 2014 on the flat over 380m and climbed the grades up to grade A3 by last October.

Having shown some decent pace in those races, he was then schooled over hurdles – winning his debut race in grade H2.

Since then he has become a very difficult dog to beat and is now winning top grade H1 races for fun.

Can any dog match his ability here at the moment? The coming weeks will tell us the answer.

Always on the lookout for an improving dog, my advice for you this week is to keep an eye on Droopys Priya.

Priya has been lightly raced with just eight career races in the last six months. Her debut race was in grade A3 over 380m, which she duly won.

Her subsequent runs saw a drop down to grade A5, however take note – she won easily at the weekend in that grade by more than seven lengths and an A4 race next time is well within her scope. Strike while the iron is hot!
