Trainer Julie Luckhurst must be delighted with the way her greyhound Phat Mary has taken to racing here at Crayford.

The August 2012 pup has made an immediate impression at the highest level, winning four of her last five starts – the last two in top grade S1 over 540m.

The dog joined Luckhurst’s kennels after just two races at Thurles in Ireland and after a good set of trials, was thrown straight in at top grade A1 over 380m. While she came last in that race, there has been no stopping her since, winning over both distances in top grades.

It may well take her a few runs at open race level to find her feet but the clock times that she has been recording would put her in with a big shout, at what may prove to be decent odds. She is well worth due consideration when you see her racing next here.

I must give a mention to High St Destiny who made it a winning return to racing at the weekend after an absence of three months due to her seasonal rest.

The greyhound had just one race here in late May in grade A6 which she duly won before going into season.

The rule of thumb in racing is that dogs should not be backed until after a certain time lapse having gone into season, however the dog took no notice of this accepted fact in a grade A4 race.

These are her only two career races to date so she is still somewhat of an unknown quantity but what is known is that she has blistering early speed away from the traps.

Can she make it a hat-trick of wins on her reappearance?

Just a reminder that our Annual Retired Greyhound Show takes place at the stadium on Sunday with the gates opening at 1.30pm. This afternoon always proves to be popular with entry at just £2 which goes to our retired greyhound home finding scheme.

Apart from many of our ex-racers on show, there will be plenty of additional attractions, so why not come along?
