Welling 0 Wealdstone 1 match report

Goalshy Welling lost their way as they were beaten by Wealdstone in National League South on Saturday.

In the first game since Welling lost 34-goal scorer Adam Coombes to Sutton, Welling failed to score for the first time in eight games.

Wealdstone owed much of their clean sheet to keeper Jonathan North, who made two stunning first-half saves, as well as their own wasteful finishing in the second half.

The only goal of the game came from former Welling midfielder Ricky Wellard, who headed home at the far post on 62 minutes.

Wealdstone had three chances in the first 14 minutes. Edward Oshodi fired wide, Elliott Godfrey's dipping volley went over and Matt Fish did well to block from Joe White.

After finally settling, Welling started to create openings of their own. Sam Hatton's 20-yard free-kick was brilliantly turned away by keeper North.

The Wealdstone keeper made an even better save nine minutes before half-time to prevent Danny Waldren's long-range effort finding the top corner.

Once behind, Welling's best openings came from the wing play of Rhys Murrel-Williamson.

On 66 minutes, the on-loan Dulwich man crossed for Harry Crawford, who fluffed his lines in front of goal.

With 18 minutes left, Murrel-Williamson pulled the ball back for Vas Karagiannis, who dragged his left-foot effort well wide.

Wealdstone showed all their experience to wind the clock down and leave Welling still looking over their shoulders at the foot of the table.
