Welling's dreadful start to life in National League South continued on Saturday.

The Wings were well beaten by a lively Weston side, who had plenty of pace up front.

It means it is now three defeats in a row for Welling under new boss Mark Goldberg.

After letting popular midfielder Sam Corne sign for Braintree, Welling fielded debut striker Dan Walker.

He nearly had a dream debut inside 50 seconds when played in by Jamie Slabber but his early shot was kept out by keeper Luke Purnell.

Weston immediately threatened when Dayle Grubb went past a couple of defenders but his low shot was kept out by keeper Chris Lewington.

The visitors went ahead on 15 minutes when Grubb's 25-yard free-kick went straight in.

There was only one team in it as Weston constantly got behind the Welling defence with neither full-back offering much protection.

Shawn McClousky had a shot saved and then fired just over so it was no surprise when he doubled the lead a minute before the break, beating the offside trap and slotting home.

Welling made a double change at the break, bringing on Harry Crawford and Rickie Hayles but, two Pierre Joseph-Dubois efforts apart, they struggled to create much.

Welling: Lewington, Nelson, Brown, Hatton (Smith 72mins), Francis, Leacock, Joseph-Dubois, Waldren, Slabber (Crawford 46mins), Walker, Johnson (Hayles 46mins). Subs not used: Sprague, Devyne. Attendance: 458.
