Search for married couple called Henry and Anne as part of new exhibition at Deal Castle

A new exhibition set to go on show at Deal Castle has inspired a search for married couples called Henry and Anne.

Henry VIII, who built Deal Castle in 1539-40, and his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves, will be at the centre of the new permanent display.

Anne of Cleves first set foot on English soil in Deal, where she ate a meal at the castle before continuing on to meet the King. The couple were married for only six months.

English Heritage is looking for its own Henry and Anne

To celebrate the start of the exhibition, which opens on Wednesday, August 2, English Heritage is looking for a Henry and Anne whose marriage has lasted a little longer than their namesakes.

Spokesman Isobel Cooley said: “If you are an Anne married to a Henry or know of a married couple with those names, we’d love to hear from you.”

Deal Castle will open a new permanent exhibition next week

The charity is also offering free admission to the castle on August 2 to anyone called Henry or Anne, whether they are married or not.

Both they and the others in their party of up to six people will receive free entry from 10am and 6pm.

Call the castle on 01304 372762.
