A man has been arrested after a media appeal to find the person responsible for hurling a beer can which partially blinded a woman.

The 20-year-old, from Deal, was taken into custody at 8.30am today after making contact with police following an appeal for the culprit to come forward.

He was questioned and released on bail until March 6.

Cora Mitchard, from Medway, suffered a serious injury to her eye after a beer can was said to have hit her in the face as she watched a fireworks display.

She had travelled to Deal on New Year’s Eve to watch the display with fiance James Guthrie and another couple when the incident happened at about 10.40pm.

During an altercation, which she was not a part of, she claims a beer can was thrown and hit her in the face.

Following emergency surgery, she has been told she will only regain 5-15% of her sight in one eye.

Last week, KentOnline featured an appeal from both Miss Mitchard and the police asking the person responsible for throwing the can to come forward.

She said: “I need you to come forward so I can feel like I can move on with my life.”
