A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

The suspect was apprehended in Princes Street in Deal today.

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed he is in custody.

Bystanders said that there had been a heavy police presence in the area late that morning.

One man said: "I saw five police cars and one van and a man being brought out of property by officers.

"I didn't know what had happened."
