A crowd of pink-attire walkers have set off from Walmer gravel pit car park today as part of an annual charity Crocus Walk for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The journey will take avid walkers to The White Cliffs Hotel in St Margaret’s where they will enjoy a buffet, courtesy of the hotel's proprietor, Gavin Oakley.

Kerry Rubins, the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Ambassador spent months arranging the fundraiser.

This is the ninth walk, and Miss Rubins has branded it the biggest yet.

It is believed there the crowd is 140 people strong.

Among those there includes MP, Charlie Elphicke and Deal town Mayor, Marlene Burnham.

Cllr Burnham said: "The sun is shining, everyone's in pink, this is what it's all about!

"This is Deal people supporting a national charity as best they can. The atmosphere is marvellous."

Labour's Clair Hawkins is participating for the first time, she said: "There's a brilliant turn out. "I really enjoyed Paula Murphy's warm up.

It's great that so many people get behind Kerry Rubins' work for breakthrough, for something that affects so many people."

The walk back to Walmer is optional.
