Deal: Car smashes into wall and bursts into flames in Albert Road

A 21-year-old man from Deal has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car smashed into a wall and burst into flames.

The crash, in Albert Road, Deal, happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It left the front end of the Volkswagon vehicle crumpled and caused damage to a garden wall, parked van and tree.

The driver fled the scene and was later picked up by officers.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called at 0.53am on Sunday, August 5 to a report of a road traffic collision in Albert Road, Deal.

"A VW Golf was in collision with a garden wall. No-one was in the car when officers attended. Kent Fire and Rescue were called after fire broke out in the car.

"A 21-year-old man from the Deal area was later arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink.

"He has been released without bail while enquiries continue."
