Cash came pouring in at Deal Town FC’s fundraising match to help rebuild the burned down clubhouse last night (Wednesday).

Despite only 150 people coming through the gates to watch two veterans teams take on the present first team, club spokesman Phil Moore said "It was a huge success from the club’s point of view."

It was on Thursday, October 6 that the almost complete clubhouse went up in flames - reducing years of fundraising and grant applications to a pile of burnt out metal.

Almost three weeks later, the first match at the Charles Ground was played, with 22 of the club’s former players walking onto the pitch resulting in a score of 9-2 to the present team.

A sponsored bike ride and a collection around all of the town’s pubs will take place on Sunday.

Organised by Deal Town supporter Peter (Twiggy) Branch, the bike ride sets off in the afternoon with men dressed as nuns on bikes.

Deal DJs Mike Hardman and Gee Begg have also volunteered to hold a DJ dance night at the Welfare Club on Friday, December 9.
