New chairman John Baker wrote in a newsletter to parents: “We regretfully accepted the resignation of our chair of governors who felt there needed to be a change of leadership to enable everyone to move forward.”

He apologised to parents for the situation adding: “We have known for some time that we have much work to do after the merger and we were addressing this. This was supported on two occasions by Her Majesty’s Inspector’s coming in to the school to help support us.

“We were all devastated when the school was put into special measures. We were not prepared for that outcome and are very disappointed by Ofsted’s judgement.”

Mr Baker has urged parents for support during the change period.
