Socially distanced Christmas tree chipping by Leaf Tree Services to raise cash for RNLI charity this weekend

You can get rid of your Christmas tree this weekend and support sea rescue charity the RNLI at the same time.

Tom Ledger of Leaf Tree Services will be holding a Christmas tree chipping event on Walmer Green, Deal, adjacent to the lifeboat station, on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 9am on both days.

Socially distanced tree chipping will be available at the RNLI Walmer Lifeboat station at the weekend.

A small-fenced compound for Covid-safe drop-off before those dates has been set up.

Anyone wishing to take their tree before the event and make a donation can post an envelope through the letterbox in the boathouse door.

The charity's fundraising activities have been hampered this year and the gift shop at Walmer Lifeboat Station remains closed.

Covid-compliant practices will be in place for those who drop their trees off when the area is manned.

Long-term supporters of Walmer lifeboat, Alistair and Lisa Basset, owners of The Goose on the Green will be offering a free hot drink for anyone bringing their tree on those days.

Mr Ledger has also set up a Just Giving page to donate when the area is unmanned.

All donations will be used to raise vital funds to help train
