Crime is down in each ward in the Deal area since November last year, according to the latest police figures online.

In Middle Deal and Sholden 63 crimes – the highest amount in the town – were reported to the police in November 2014. In January 2015, the number had fallen to 46.

Mill Hill had the second highest number in November – 52. In January it had only 30 recorded crimes.

The number of reported crimes in North Deal fell by five from 47 in November to 42 in January.

The January offences in North Deal included 10 incidences of anti-social behaviour, three bike thefts, two burglaries, and nine acts of criminal damage or arson.

Ringwould still has the lowest rate, with four crimes in January compared with six in November.

The figures were obtained from the Kent Police website, which enables residents to study crime levels in their neighbourhoods and identify problem areas within the town.

During a police report to Deal Town Council on Monday, Sgt Carl Lidgley offered an even more recent update, with information not yet available online.

He said: “There has been a reduction in crime across the whole board compared to February last year.

“Motor vehicle crime is down immensely , burglaries are in the low 10s, and assaults are down. It’s pleasing to see.”

Sgt Lidgley also referred to the pending opening of The Ocean Rooms in Queen Street – formerly Rivals – on Friday, April 3, and what measure police would take to prevent crime increasing.

He said: “The nightclub will open again. I intend to pop down and have a word. The problem is not in the club but when people come out.”
