Man held by police near Sandown Castle in Deal after trying to walk into sea

A man has been detained after threatening to walk into the sea at Deal.

Walmer lifeboat was called to help police near Sandown Castle last night.

The crew was asked to standby just off shore at Sandown Castle and be prepared to help.

Crew from Walmer RNLI located the body

Police detained the man, believed to be about 35, on the shoreline.

Once he was in police custody, the crew was stood down and the lifeboat was able to return to a training exercise.
